The volunteers of Saline County give countless hours of time, experience and talent to benefit charitable or non-profit agencies, as well as churches and civic groups.  The work is performed without expectation of pay and often without recognition or thanks.  To celebrate these caring citizens, the Junior Auxiliary of Saline County will recognize the 2012 "Kindle Thy Flame" award recipient.  The recipient of this award will be presented with a plaque at the Junior Auxiliary of Saline County's Annual Children's Benefit on February 25, 2012.

We look forward to reviewing all of the nominees!

Due to an unforeseen logist ical issue with the Walgreens account in regards to the pictures taken this past Saturday, we have made some changes to how you are able to access the pictures.

We have grouped the pictures into 6 different albums.  Two albums are pictures of your kids with the Chic k Fil A cow.  There is an 8 to 9 am group and a 9 to 10 am group.  These times are averages, as its main purpose is to help you with the number of photos that you will have to scroll through.

The santa pictures are grouped into the following albums: 1 through 50, 51 through 100, 101 through 150 and 151 through 200.

Once you click on the link of the album you need, you should be able to find your picture.  Then after setting up a Walgreens account (or using one you already have), you can print as many as you'd like.

These album links can be found on our Facebook page.

Thank you for your patience.  And we apologize again for the change in plans.

School is back in session and the kids seem to be back into the swing of things. This is a great time of year for our organization because there seems to be a high need for all sorts of items when the kids return to school from summer break. School supplies are at the top of the need list for the fall. Our “Tools for Schools” committee is working diligently to get requested items to the schools that seem to have the greatest needs. Shoes also also seem to be something we are commonly asked for during this time. You would be surprised how many children's shoes were worn out over the summer, but did not receive new ones to start the new school year.

Our “JA on Call” committee is partnering with every school across Saline County to see that counselors, teachers, and principals have the appropriate names and contact information to reach us, should a need arise! This is what we do. We are here to make a difference in the lives of children and their families. Call us, email us, facebook us…..no matter what the need, great or small – we’ll find a way to make it happen. The ladies of the Junior Auxiliary of Saline County have such a passion for the children of Saline County.

We won’t let you down! Until next month…..

JA on Call is a service project that goes to the heart of JA's mission to faithfully support the children of Saline County.  Through this project, the Junior Auxiliary meets the needs of children by stepping in to provide requested items on an emergency basis. Schools, churches and other organizations contact us to request emergency aid when children have a need that their families cannot afford.  Recently, we have also begun to receive requests via the website.  This has added a whole new dimension to the project.  In the past, we have provided everything from choir dresses to eyeglasses to medication to school fees.

Basically, JA on Call is a bit of a "catch all" project; it is used to meet the needs that might otherwise fall through the cracks.  We are quite proud of this project because it allows us to be very hands-on in our community as well as make an immediate positive impact in the life of a child.  Due to the large scope of needs, we never know what the next request may be.  We welcome donations to help us ensure that all requests are met.

- Stacy Harris, Chairperson of JA on Call

How is it possible that the beginning of the school year is less than one month away!?

I must admit...I'm a N.E.R.D. when it comes to school supplies.  I loved nothing more than my mother taking me to Wal-Mart.  Letting me pick out whatever supplies I wanted.  I remember the trapper keepers, and the smelly erasers.  I remember the pink zip pocket that would fit perfectly at the front of my binder.  I would load it up with pens and pencils and post-it notes.  I'm getting goosebumps just thinking about it.

I was lucky.  I was allowed an ything I wanted on those trips to Wal-Mart.  Even if it was a notebook with the New Kids on the Block on the front cover.

Unfortunately, so many children org/blog/editors/tiny_mce3/themes/advanced/langs/en.js" type="text/javascript"> in our community aren't.  These are k ids who are dependent on others helping them to gather t he supplies they will need throughout the year.  All too often, the "others helping them" become their teachers.  Those teachers spend their own money on supplies for these kids.  That just doesn't seem fair.

That's where the Junior Auxiliary of Saline County comes in.

Our service project titled, "Tools for Schools" provides school supplies to some of the local elementary schools.  We're talking about notebook paper, boxes of Kleenex, pencils, Clorox wipes, crayons, etc.  All the things that so many of us are able to walk in Walgreens and purchase without worrying about the cost.

So we're coming to you!  Your support allows us to offer programs like this to the children of Saline County.  Please consider donating to the Junior Auxiliary today.  Maybe when you go shopping for your own kiddos, you could pick up a few extra supplies.  Contact one of our members and we would be happy to pick up anything you purchase for the kids.

Also, if you are a parent of a child in need or a teacher or administrator in Saline County that would like to be a part of this service project, please click the "Contact" tab above and let us know how we can help!

The hard work goes on year-round, but during the first week of April each year, the Junior Auxiliary of Saline County pauses to say thanks to the community for another great year.  A year packed with service to families and children through nine service projects that include everything from providing newborn essentials to new mothers to working with young women to promote a healthy body image to meeting urgent needs of families in the community.  For 40 years, the Junior Auxiliary has made a difference in the lives of the children of our communities, and we couldn't do that without the support of the citizens of Saline County.  We are so grateful to Mayor David Mattingly and the City Council for naming April 4, 2011 JA Day in Benton.

"This is such an exciting week for us, because it gives us a chance to thank all of the citizens of Saline County for supporting us in this work, and to recognize our wonderful corporate sponsors who finance these projects," Becca Cobb, President of Junior Auxiliary of Saline County, said. "The families and children we serve are so deserving and thankful for this assistance, and none of that would be possible without the support of the entire community."

"Junior Auxiliary has a rich history of service, and the Junior Auxiliary of Saline County is carrying on that tradition. This Chapter embraces the founding principles of our national organization, “helping children and making a difference in their lives,” said Charlotte Seals, NAJA President.

“The Junior Auxiliary has helped my students at Bryant Elementary.  They have bought shoes for children throughout the year, and they have also provided clothing that is appropriate for the season.  One of my children received boots this year right before the big snow.  She was so happy to have those boots!  I am so thankful to the Junior Auxiliary for helping out students in our community,” recalled Glenda Bloxom, a first grader teacher at Bryant Elementary.

Benton Middle School Principal Sue Shults commended the volunteers for their work.  “The Junior Auxiliary has been a welcomed guest at our school for the past three years.  They have given their time, knowledge and concern to our seventh grade girls as they have shared their Food and Mood program.  The program shares important health information at an extremely critical time in the lives of our female students.  We continue to be thankful for their investment in our students' well-being."

JA of Saline County has approximately 40 members who donate thousands of hours every year to the chapter's various projects. The chapter raises funds each year through a Golf Tournament and their Annual Children’s Benefit, which was held in February of this year.  Thank you Saline County for your support over the past 40 years.  We look forward to another 40 years of service!
